Former Super Eagles legendary goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, has reportedly passed away at the age of 61,

According to a report by Radio Nigeria, Rufai died on Thursday after a prolonged illness that had kept him away from public appearances for some time.

Although the family is yet to officially confirm the sad news, a senior official of the Lagos State Government has reportedly verified the development.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s finest goalkeepers, Rufai had a distinguished football career, representing the country 65 times. He featured in two FIFA World Cups and was a key figure in Nigeria’s memorable 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory.

The former shot-stopper, who also played for clubs like Stationery Stores and Go Ahead Eagles, is fondly remembered for his agility, leadership, and pivotal contributions to Nigerian football during the golden era of the Super Eagles.
