Nigerians have been urged to harness the power of sports in shaping a healthier and united nation.

Hon. Adedeji Stanley Dhikrullahi Olajide, gave this advice, while speaking at the closing ceremony of the third edition of the Senior Special (SS28) Golf Championship of the Ibadan Golf Club.

The SS28 Golf Championship is an annual event, that draws both seasoned professionals and emerging talents to the scenic greens of the Ibadan Golf Club.

Hon. Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency of Oyo state, at the national assembly commended the Seyi Alaba-led executives of the Ibadan Golf Club for their sterling efforts in putting in place the SS 28 golf competition to showcase top-level golfing alongside spirited community participation, especially among the youths.

He said, as an advocate for youth empowerment, through competitive sports, the SS28 Golf Championship reflects his broad legislative vision of integrating sports into public policy as a tool for youth development and social transformation, reinforcing his commitment to promoting sports as a vehicle for healthy competition and social change.

“This championship clearly exemplifies the potential of sports to bring about positive social change and foster unity among our citizens. Encouraging competitive sports like golf can significantly boost both physical health and social unity across our nation. Our commitment to healthy living begins with active participation in sports and Golf, with its blend of strategy, skill and physical activity, offers invaluable health benefits that resonate well beyond the course,” he noted.

Hon. Olajide, who is the chairman, House of Representatives committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, apart from being a major sponsor of the just concluded third edition of the competition, announced a donation of 10 million for the fourth edition of the SS28 Golf Championship.

“This contribution, he said, is more than financial backing, it is an investment in our future, in the dreams and talents of our youth. I urge Nigerians to embrace competitive sports as a means to achieve personal well-being and community cohesion.”
