…says winning election is about preparation
The Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo North Senatorial District to remain united ahead of the 2027 general election.
He added that party members can only enjoy the benefit of government when the ruling party is in power.
Disclosing this on Wednesday during the PDP senatorial meeting held at Saki Town Hall, Saki West LG, the Deputy Governor noted that it is crucial that the party members who put in a lot of effort to help the party win the 2023 gubernatorial election be rewarded.
He insisted that party members should be given equal access to political slots and promised that crises within the party would be urgently addressed.
The Deputy Governor however reaffirmed the necessity of party unity while also stating that a reconciliation committee would be constituted to address the concerns of resentful members.
He announced that Baba Saka Balogun would coordinate the reconciliation committee to ensure that the party is united in Oyo North Senatorial district.
In his words: “The Makinde led administration is your government. Don’t allow division in the party. We must support the party at all cost for the progress of the party and individual.
“I need to let you know that there’s opportunity for every member till the last day of this administration. Don’t ever undermine the power of government.
“While I urge those who are taking the back seat to also work for the progress of the party, I need to let you know that at the state level, we are doing everything to ensure that the senatorial district advance. Technical colleges would be resuscitated, as well as other projects that will advance the senatorial district.
“Ogbooro road to Saki would be completed between now and May next year. The government has already embarked on the project. But importantly, let’s ensure that other projects are also included in the 2025 budget.”
Barr. Lawal who noted that the senatorial meeting is the first of its kind in the Omituntun 2.0, however urged the senatorial chairman, Hon. Yusuf Adekunle to draw his timetable that would allow for subsequent meetings in other federal constituencies within the senatorial district to ensure that the party remain united ahead of the coming general election.
He added that wining election is about preparation and urged the party to continue supporting the current administration.
Earlier in their separate remarks, Alhaji Saka Balogun, Kumuni Mustapha, Hamid Gbadamosi, Jacob Adetoro, and other PDP leaders at the event, praised Governor Makinde for his excellent leadership and sound governance in the state.
The leaders urged the party to maintain its unity and suggested constituting a reconciliation committee to handle any problems or lingering crises ahead of 2027 general election.
However, Hon. Oyedeji Oshine, a member of the House of Representatives, urged members of the party to ensure that all PDP candidates win in 2027 general election.
He commended Governor Makinde for his developmental strides, noting that the Governor remain the best performing Governor in the history of Oke-Ogun zone.
On his part, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, representing Ogbomoso South Constituency, who spoke on behalf of House of Assembly members, assured that the House would continue to support the Makinde administration in its good policies for the advancement of the party and government.
Speaking on behalf of the local government chairmen, the Iseyin council boss, Razaq Fadiran, also urged all members to continue supporting the current administration and praised the governor and his deputy for their support of the party.
The event was attended by top government functionaries, local government chairmen, leaders, stakeholders and members of the party.
